Casana Master Bedroom_298_Rodea

Rodea, by Casana Furniture

If you wish your bedroom looked like the 5-star hotel you stayed at during your last business convention … before business travel went the way of your bonus check, read on. I might have good news for you.

I saw this gem at a Raymore Flanigan store here on Long Island. Not sure if the supplier (Casana Furniture) intended it or not, but from a hotel buff’s perspective, this contemporary bedroom furniture is 100% hotel room worthy, making it a great choice for the bedroom oasis so many of us are after these days.

Platform bed with sleigh-shaped headboard

If solid wood is impotant to you, you can check that off too. The bedroom features  solid mahogany that you can see and feel (not just read about). Check out those sculpted drawers. The leather headboard will be comfy to lean against when you’re served breakfast in bed…er, or, when just watching TV) and there are storage cabinets in the collection that will actually help you get organized.

But first, back to the bed. According to company execs, both of the sleigh bed styles sell well. But in my opinion, the platform bed is the way to go. It looks to me like an over-sized chaise longue – that shapely French creature that defines relaxtion itself.  This classic-contemporary version is a bit of a hybrid, but the sleigh headboard and platform bed style are perfectly indulgent for a hotel-style bedroom. More than that, it’ll shave a minute off your morning rush. If you’d rather make your coffee than make your bed, nix tucking in the comforter. A platform bed style lets you simply straighten out the comforter and the bed looks made.

Rodea 2

The dresser’s storage drawers are actually deep enough to stash bulky sweaters and pants. And if your sock drawer divorces matching socks all on its own, you’ll love that the pieces in this collection are sized to store and organize the clothing you own. I especially like the chest of drawers and the ultra chic semanier. (Who doesn’t want a semanier (pronounced sem-an-yeh) in their bedroom, if for no other reason than you can tell people you have one. But this stacked-drawer wonder does more than sound good – its storage drawers are shallow and narrow – perfect to help you store and, yes, organize ties, jewelry and all the small things.

The velvet-lined top drawers are easy on the delicate stuff but I didn’t care as much for the wood drawer glides. With all the advances in drawer technology these days, they seemed old-fashioned for this contemporary bedroom.

Casana - Rodea - bench

Storage bench

I’d like to believe I’d use the bench to lounge around on all day in my pjs, but in reality, I’d probably use it as a storage bench to keep suitcases off the bed (yuck!) when packing, to put on shoes or to keep things off the floor. Also liked the leather top because cats and suitcases can scratch low-lying wood benches and fabric doesn’t easily relinquish dirt and germs. I would have liked to see a flip-top storage compartment below the seat (there would have been room). But the lower shelf is handy to store blankets, magazines and keeps shoes off the path to the bathroom at 3 am. One could argue that the bench adds to the chaise longue effect of the  platform bed, but the full sleigh bed creates a back for it. Picture dressing it up with toss pillows to create a romantic mini loveseat in your bedroom!  Hmmm. Ya… no, still love the platform bed.

I’d match the dark cabernet finish on this contemporary bedroom with an equally chic paint color. The warm café au lait (Behr 290E-3) in the photo feels calm and relaxing. But any neutral paint color with a hint of color would work (slate, taupe, etc). You could add drama with a ruby-colored comforter or pillows, and brushed nickel lamps and picture frames would play up the brushed nickel hardware.

Oh, there’s also a media stand with this bedroom collection. With one flat-screen television above it, you’ll be ready to order up room service. Sadly, a do-not-disturb sign was not offered with the group. Something they may want to reconsider.
