meet Loreen

I’m Loreen Epp, and apart from thinking Winston Churchill had it right, I recently launched my own company, Room Planners Inc, to help home enthusiasts improve the shape of their own dwellings.

Who am I?
I’m an interior designer by training, but spent most of my career developing and marketing home furnishings for major  retailers and manufacturers. I love to travel everywhere and anywhere. I’m a classical flutist and pianist who’s still struggling to play jazz, despite the desperate efforts of talented friends who’ve tried to teach me. I enjoy writing and my articles and columns have been published in a variety of home furnishing trade, consumer and web publications.

What do design, marketing, music and writing have in common?
Still trying to figure that out. Probably nothing.

What do I believe?
Most people want a really nice place, but they don’t think they’ve got the knowhow or money to pull it off. Going on vacation or buying a car is easier. But trust me on this… improving their home would make them happier.

What gets me up in the morning?
Wish I knew. Maybe getting to bed earlier.

What’s my favorite design style?
It changes, depending on where I’m living and what kind of style suits  the place. The only style I really don’t get is no style at all. That… and too much stuff.

Why a blog on home design?
There aren’t too many shortcuts in life, but I’m desperately trying to create them… or at least wade through all the information that’s out there and make this whole home improvement thing easier. 

Where in the world am I?
I live just outside New York City in a charming cottage overlooking the north shore of Long Island, NY. But I was born in Canada, eh? Right outside Vancouver… a really beautiful place you really should try to visit. As it turns out, though, I’m an east coast gal at heart.
